The boys and girls at the nursery have been enjoying the snowy weather at nursery today. We spent all day in the garden making snow angels. We were all very cold but had a great time playing in the snow.
Our soft starts begin again next week, starting with the purple group. Mrs Robertson will having her stay and play on Tuesday 17th and Mrs Mitchell will be having hers on Thursday 19th. We invite all purple group parents to stay at the start at the session to play with the children and have an informal chat with your key worker.
We had a very busy Christmas period here at Strathesk Nursery. The children were involved in a number of activities over the festive period. We went down to Biggar to watch the Purves Puppet Show, we made lots of lovely things to sell at the Christmas Fayre and we also got a Facetime chat from Santa all the way from the North Pole! Our Christmas activities ended with an actual visit from Santa at our party. We had a great time! We hope you all had a lovely Christmas too.
At Strathesk Primary we offer a PEEP group for parents with young children aged 2 years old. The group aims to support parents and carers by providing help and support while also encouraging learning and development for young children. Please have a look at our leaflet and get in touch through the details provided if you would like to join our group.
This week at nursery we have been learning about magnets. The children were talking about their existing knowledge of magnets and what they are used for. Many of the children knew that magnets stick to metal and were able to recognise different objects that the magnet would not stick to (plastic and wood). We tested our magnets to see if they would work in sand and if they would work under water. We also made some paper mazes and used our magnets to complete the maze using a piece of metal. The children thoroughly enjoyed science week and will be experimenting more with the magnets inside the nursery this month.
Last week in nursery we scooped out all of the seeds from our pumpkins to make jack-o-lanterns for Halloween. The children were interested what would happen to the seeds once they were out of the pumpkin. One of the children suggested that we could plant them…so that’s what we did. The children planted the seeds into the pots and have been eager to see if anything is going to grow from the plant pots. We have been discussing what else we could grow in nursery too. We will be going on a walk at the end of the week to see what has changed in the woods since autumn began.
