Nursery – Snow Day!

The boys and girls at the nursery have been enjoying the snowy weather at nursery today.  We spent all day in the garden making snow angels.  We were all very cold but had a great time playing in the snow.

Our soft starts begin again next week, starting with the purple group.  Mrs Robertson will having her stay and play on Tuesday 17th and Mrs Mitchell will be having hers on Thursday 19th.  We invite all purple group parents to stay at the start at the session to play with the children and have an informal chat with your key worker.

Christmas at Strathesk Nursery

We had a very busy Christmas period here at Strathesk Nursery.  The children were involved in a number of activities over the festive period.  We went down to Biggar to watch the Purves Puppet Show, we made lots of lovely things to sell at the Christmas Fayre and we also got a Facetime chat from Santa all the way from the North Pole!  Our Christmas activities ended with an actual visit from Santa at our party.  We had a great time!  We hope you all had a lovely Christmas too.

Nursery – Winter is Coming

This week in the nursery we have been FREEZING!!  The children have been exploring the garden which has been covered in frost and ice.  We have talked about why there is so much ice in the garden, what has caused it, what will happen to it, and do we like it.  img_1050 img_1053 img_1052 img_1079 img_1083 img_1090

Nursery – Science Week, Magnets

This week at nursery we have been learning about magnets.  The children were talking about their existing knowledge of magnets and what they are used for.  Many of the children knew that magnets stick to metal and were able to recognise different objects that the magnet would not stick to (plastic and wood).  We tested our magnets to see if they would work in sand and if they would work under water.  We also made some paper mazes and used our magnets to complete the maze using a piece of metal.img_0947 img_0975 img_1002 img_0998 img_1077 img_1084The children thoroughly enjoyed science week and will be experimenting more with the magnets inside the nursery this month.

Nursery – Autumn Planting

Last week in nursery we scooped out all of the seeds from our pumpkins to make jack-o-lanterns for Halloween.  The children were interested what would happen to the seeds once they were out of the pumpkin.  One of the children suggested that we could plant them…so that’s what we did.dscn1017 dscn1018The children planted the seeds into the pots and have been eager to see if anything is going to grow from the plant pots.  We have been discussing what else we could grow in nursery too.  We will be going on a walk at the end of the week to see what has changed in the woods since autumn began.
